Applying for WIC in District of Columbia
DC WIC offers an online appointment request through LINKU DMV, as well as the option to call your local WIC clinic directly. After requesting an appointment, WIC staff will confirm eligibility and schedule your visit. An in-person appointment is required for certification. Plan to spend approximately one hour at your first appointment.
Step 1: Request an Appointment Online or Call
Request a WIC appointment online through LINKU DMV at dcwic.org/dc-wic-appointment-request โ select your nearest clinic and submit your request. You can also call your preferred WIC clinic directly. All 15 DC WIC clinic locations and phone numbers are listed at dcwic.org/wic-locations. For general questions, call DC Health at (202) 442-9397.
Step 2: Upload Documents in Advance (Optional)
Use the DC WIC Participant Portal at mydcwic.com (also available in Spanish) to upload required documents before your appointment โ including proof of address, income, identity, and any medical information from your healthcare provider. Uploading documents in advance can reduce time spent at the clinic.
Step 3: Gather Your Documents
- Proof of identity (photo ID, driver's license, or other government-issued ID)
- Proof of DC residency (utility bill, lease, or addressed mail)
- Proof of income (last two pay stubs) โ not required if enrolled in DC Healthy Families, SNAP, TANF, or free or reduced-price school meals; bring your benefit notice showing your case number instead
- Proof of pregnancy (doctor's letter) or proof of birth (birth certificate, discharge papers, or hospital ID bracelet) if applicable
DC WIC does not ask about visa status or citizenship. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to receive WIC.
Step 4: Attend Your In-Person Appointment
Your first appointment will take approximately one hour. A WIC health professional will verify your eligibility, conduct a nutritional risk assessment including height, weight, and a blood test for iron levels, and provide personalized nutrition counseling. You will receive your eWIC card loaded with your first month's benefits. Ask about your free Pacify membership for 24/7 lactation consultant video access, and seasonal FMNP benefits for farmers' markets.
Recertification
WIC eligibility must be renewed periodically. General recertification timelines:
- Pregnant women are certified through approximately 6 months postpartum (up to 12 months if breastfeeding)
- Breastfeeding women may continue up to 12 months postpartum
- Infants are typically recertified around 6 months of age and again near their first birthday
- Children are recertified every 6โ12 months until they reach age 5
Your WIC clinic will notify you when recertification is due. You can also check your next appointment through the DC WIC Participant Portal at mydcwic.com.
