Applying for WIC in Florida

Florida WIC does not have a statewide online application. The process starts by checking eligibility and then contacting your local county WIC office to schedule a certification visit. The best starting points are:

  • FloridaWIC.org โ€” use the WIC Prescreening Tool (available in multiple languages) to check if you may be eligible, or chat with Willow, Florida WIC's virtual assistant, for help finding your nearest office
  • State WIC information line โ€” use the phone number in the contact card above to reach the state WIC office or your county health department
  • Your local county health department โ€” Florida WIC is administered county by county through the Florida Department of Health, available in all 67 counties

Before Your Appointment

  • ID for every family member applying โ€” driver's license, passport, birth certificate, immunization card, or other government-issued ID
  • Proof of Florida address โ€” utility bill, lease, or recent mail with your name and address
  • Proof of income โ€” recent pay stubs, employer letter, tax return, or Social Security award letter for all household members. If your household receives Medicaid, SNAP, or TCA, bring that enrollment documentation instead
  • For infants and children โ€” birth certificate or hospital record. Bring immunization records if available
  • For pregnant women โ€” documentation of pregnancy from a healthcare provider if available

What Happens at Your Certification Visit

At your certification visit, a licensed Florida WIC nutritionist or nutrition educator will review your household income and the medical and nutrition status of each applicant. This includes height and weight measurements and a review of nutrition history. If approved, your WIC EBT card is loaded with food benefits. You can begin shopping immediately.

Florida WIC provides nutrition education and counseling at certification and ongoing appointments. You can complete some nutrition education requirements online through wichealth.org, reducing the number of in-person clinic visits needed.

Important Florida WIC Scheduling Note

All Florida WIC offices close at noon on the last day of each month for inventories and staff training. Do not schedule your certification or recertification appointment for the afternoon of the last day of the month.

The Florida WIC App

Once enrolled, download the Florida WIC Mobile App (free on iOS and Android). It lets you view appointments and food benefits, scan UPC barcodes to check if items are WIC approved, upload documents for certification, and find WIC-authorized stores and clinics near you. The app includes Willow Watson, an AI chat assistant that can answer WIC questions. Available in English and Spanish with Haitian Creole support.

Recertification in Florida

Pregnant women are certified through delivery. Breastfeeding women are certified up to one year postpartum. Postpartum non-breastfeeding women are certified for six months. Children are certified annually. Your local WIC office will notify you before your certification period ends. Don't let it lapse โ€” benefits stop on the certification end date.

Transferring WIC Benefits To or From Florida

Moving to Florida from another state? Contact your local county Florida WIC office and bring your Verification of Certification (VOC) form from your previous state. Moving out of Florida? Ask your WIC office for a VOC form before you leave. Your Florida WIC EBT card only works at authorized vendors within Florida.
