Applying for WIC in Virginia
Virginia offers an online WIC application at myvawic.org. After submitting, your local health district WIC office will contact you to schedule your certification appointment. You can also contact your local health district WIC office directly to make an appointment — use the health district map on the VDH website to find your office.

Before Your Appointment
- ID for every family member applying — driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or other government-issued ID
- Proof of Virginia address — utility bill, lease, or recent mail with your name and address
- Proof of income — recent pay stubs or other income documentation for all household members. If your household receives Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, bring that enrollment documentation instead
- For infants and children — birth certificate or hospital record
- For pregnant women — documentation of pregnancy from a healthcare provider if available
What Happens at Your Appointment
At your Virginia WIC certification appointment, a WIC health professional will review your documents, assess nutritional risk at no cost to you, and determine your food package. If approved, your Virginia eWIC card is loaded with benefits. You will also receive nutrition education and breastfeeding support as part of your visit. Recertification in Virginia
Pregnant women are certified through delivery. Breastfeeding women are certified up to one year postpartum. Postpartum non-breastfeeding women are certified for six months. Children are certified annually. Your local WIC clinic will notify you when recertification is due. If you move within Virginia, your local office will provide information for the nearest WIC office in your new location. If you move out of Virginia, ask your local WIC office for a Verification of Certification (VOC) form before you leave.
