Applying for WIC in Washington

Washington does not have a statewide online WIC application. You can fill out a WIC interest form online at doh.wa.gov, use the WIC Clinic Locator at doh.wa.gov/you-and-your-family/wic, call the WIC Cascades Support Line at 1-800-841-1410, or text "WIC" to 96859 to find your nearest clinic.

Washington WIC offers remote services โ€” many appointments including initial certification and recertification can be conducted by phone or video for eligible participants. Ask your local clinic what remote options are available in your area when you call to schedule.

Before Your Appointment

  • ID for every person enrolling โ€” driver's license, passport, birth certificate, or other government-issued ID. Infants need a crib card or birth certificate
  • Proof of Washington address โ€” utility bill, lease, or recent mail with your name and address
  • Proof of income or program participation โ€” if your household receives Apple Health, TANF, or Basic Food (SNAP), bring documentation of that enrollment. Otherwise bring recent pay stubs for all working household members
  • For infants and children โ€” birth certificate or immunization records

Washington WIC notes that its income guidelines are higher than many other programs โ€” many families who assume they are over income actually qualify. If you're unsure, call 1-800-841-1410 to ask before your appointment.

What Happens at Your Appointment

At your Washington WIC appointment, staff will check your eligibility, conduct a health screening including height, weight, and blood iron levels, identify health risks, and provide nutrition education. If approved, your WIC card is loaded with food benefits. Washington WIC also provides referrals to Apple Health, immunization services, Help Me Grow WA, and other community services.

Remote WIC Services

Washington WIC has established remote service options allowing many appointment types to be conducted by phone or video. This is particularly valuable for participants in rural eastern Washington, the Olympic Peninsula, and other areas where clinic access is more limited. Contact your local WIC clinic to find out what remote appointment options are available for your certification and follow-up visits.

The WICShopper App

Once enrolled, download the WICShopper app (free on iOS and Android). Select Washington during setup. Register your WIC card for full access to real-time benefit balances, expiration notifications, and barcode scanning. Washington WIC communicates with participants directly through the app โ€” keep it installed and notifications enabled.

WIC Farmers Market Benefits

Once enrolled, ask your WIC clinic about the WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). FMNP provides additional benefits redeemable at participating farmers markets and farm stores from June 1 through October 31. Some local markets offer additional matching programs โ€” ask your local WIC office for details.

Recertification in Washington

Certification periods vary by participant category. Your local WIC clinic will set your certification period and notify you when recertification is due. Many follow-up and recertification appointments can be completed remotely by phone or video โ€” ask your clinic about options. Benefits must be used within each monthly benefit period and do not roll over.
