Applying for WIC in Colorado
Colorado WIC makes it easy to start the process online. Submit a sign-up form at coloradowic.gov/eligibility/apply and a WIC staff member from the clinic serving your area will contact you within 10 calendar days. If you need to connect sooner, use the clinic finder at coloradowic.gov/find-wic-clinic to call your local office directly. Colorado WIC encourages families to apply even if their income is slightly above the guidelines or if they have been denied before.
Step 1: Sign Up Online or Call
- Online sign-up form: Visit coloradowic.gov/eligibility/apply to submit your contact information. WIC staff will reach out within 10 calendar days to complete the process and schedule your certification appointment.
- Call your local clinic: Use the clinic finder at coloradowic.gov to find and call the WIC office serving your area directly.
- Referrals: Healthcare providers and community organizations can refer eligible families through the Colorado WIC Referral Form at coloradowicsignup.com.
Step 2: Gather Your Documents
Bring the following to your certification appointment:
- Proof of identity for yourself and each person applying โ a driver's license, passport, birth certificate, tribal ID, or hospital records for infants. Colorado WIC does not require proof of pregnancy as a condition of eligibility โ agencies cannot withhold services if you decline to provide pregnancy documentation.
- Proof of Colorado residency โ a utility bill, lease, official mail, or other document showing your current Colorado address.
- Proof of income โ pay stubs from the last 30 days, employer letters, or benefit award letters. If you receive Health First Colorado (Medicaid), Colorado Works (TANF), SNAP, FDPIR, or Emergency Medicaid, bring that enrollment documentation instead โ it replaces income proof entirely.
- For children: growth measurements (height, weight, and hemoglobin) taken within the last 60 days by a doctor or community health program can be accepted in lieu of in-person measurements at the WIC clinic for enrollment appointments.
Step 3: Your Certification Appointment
Colorado WIC offers phone and online appointments whenever possible. However, at least once a year โ typically at enrollment or re-enrollment โ an in-person visit is required to take growth measurements (height, weight) and hemoglobin levels. If you have recent measurements from a doctor taken within 60 days, you may be able to complete the appointment by phone. Ask your clinic about options for your situation.
At your appointment, WIC staff will verify documents, conduct a nutrition and health assessment, determine your food package, and load your first month of benefits onto your eWIC card. You will also receive your WIC Family ID for logging into wichealth.org for future nutrition education appointments.
Recertification
Pregnant women are certified through pregnancy and six months postpartum (twelve months if breastfeeding). Infants are recertified around six months and approaching their first birthday. Children are recertified every six to twelve months until age five. Phone and online options are available for many follow-up and recertification appointments. Contact your local WIC clinic before your certification period ends to avoid a lapse in benefits.
