Applying for WIC in Nevada

Nevada WIC does not have a statewide online application. To apply, find the WIC clinic or community-based organization serving your area and call to schedule an appointment. Nevada delivers WIC through both county public health departments and a network of community-based organizations, so you may have multiple providers to choose from depending on your location.

Step 1: Find Your Local WIC Clinic

  • Visit nevadawic.org/clinics/ and use the clinic locator to find WIC providers near you.
  • Call your local Nevada WIC clinic โ€” contact numbers are listed at the clinic locator above.
  • Access Nevada (accessnevada.nv.gov) can also connect you to WIC and other state assistance programs from a single portal.

Step 2: Gather Your Documents

Bring the following to your certification appointment. One proof of residency covers the entire family โ€” the parent or guardian's proof of residence applies to infants and children even if their name does not appear on the document.

  • Proof of identity for yourself and each person applying โ€” a state driver's license or ID, birth certificate, passport, or Medicaid card. For infants, hospital documentation is acceptable.
  • Proof of Nevada residency โ€” a state driver's license or ID with your current physical address, or a utility bill, lease, or official mail at your current address. P.O. Box addresses are not acceptable for proof of residence.
  • Proof of income or program enrollment โ€” current pay statements for all household members who earn income. If you receive Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR, bring that enrollment documentation instead โ€” it replaces income proof. If you receive no income, you may complete an affidavit at the clinic stating this.

Step 3: Your Certification Appointment

At your appointment, WIC staff will verify documents, take height and weight measurements, and may conduct a hemoglobin blood test to check iron levels. A nutrition professional will discuss your family's eating habits and health, determine nutritional risk, assign your food package, and issue your eWIC card. Nevada WIC offers one-on-one counseling from registered dietitians and nutritionists. Some agencies offer remote appointment options for follow-up visits after initial certification โ€” contact your local clinic to ask what options are available.

Language Access

Free language assistance is available at all Nevada WIC clinics upon request. If you have difficulty communicating in English or have a disability, notify WIC staff or contact your local clinic to arrange assistance before your appointment.

Tribal Members and FDPIR Recipients

Nevada tribal members may also access WIC through the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada (ITCN) WIC Program or other tribal health programs. Nevada state WIC clinics are open to all eligible residents regardless of tribal enrollment. If your household receives Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) benefits, you are automatically income-eligible for WIC โ€” bring your FDPIR documentation to your appointment in place of income verification.

Recertification

Pregnant women are certified through pregnancy and six months postpartum (twelve months if breastfeeding). Infants are recertified around six months and approaching their first birthday. Children are recertified every six months until their fifth birthday. Contact your local WIC clinic before your certification period ends to schedule a renewal appointment and avoid a gap in benefits.

Application FAQ โ€” Nevada WIC

No. Nevada does not have a statewide online WIC application. To apply, find your nearest WIC clinic or community-based organization provider at nevadawic.org/clinics/ and call to schedule an appointment. You can also explore Nevada's unified benefits portal at accessnevada.nv.gov to learn about WIC and other assistance programs. The certification appointment โ€” including health measurements and a nutritional assessment โ€” must be completed in person at your local agency.

Bring proof of identity for yourself and each person applying (state ID, driver's license, birth certificate, passport, or Medicaid card; hospital documentation for infants), proof of Nevada residency with your current physical address โ€” not a P.O. Box (driver's license with current address, utility bill, lease, or official mail), and proof of income or current Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR enrollment documentation, which replaces income proof. One proof of residency document covers the entire family โ€” the parent or guardian's document applies to infants and children even if their names do not appear on it.

Initial WIC certification appointments โ€” which include health measurements and a nutritional assessment โ€” must be completed in person. Some Nevada WIC providers offer remote appointment options for follow-up visits after initial certification. Availability varies by local agency โ€” contact your specific WIC clinic to ask what options are available for your situation.

Moving within Nevada: contact the WIC clinic or agency in your new area. Your eWIC card and certification period transfer within the state. Moving out of Nevada: ask your current WIC clinic for a Verification of Certification (VOC) document before you leave and bring it to a WIC clinic in your new state to continue benefits without a full recertification. Your Nevada eWIC card will only work at authorized retailers within Nevada.
