Applying for WIC in Wyoming

Wyoming WIC offers an online portal and in-person clinic visits statewide. The portal at wic-portal.health.wyo.gov/ParticipantPortal lets families apply, request appointments, message WIC staff, and upload documents from home. Each person applying must be physically present at the certification appointment, though some exceptions apply โ€” ask your clinic.

Step 1: Apply Online or Contact Your Local Clinic

Visit the Wyoming WIC online portal at wic-portal.health.wyo.gov/ParticipantPortal to check income eligibility, apply, and request an appointment. You can also find your nearest clinic and contact them directly using the clinic locator at health.wyo.gov/publichealth/wic.

Step 2: Gather Your Documents

  • Proof of identity for each person applying (driver's license, birth certificate, passport, or other accepted ID โ€” see the WDH apply page for all accepted forms)
  • Proof of Wyoming residency (utility bill, lease, or addressed mail)
  • Proof of income for the last 30 days (pay stubs, employer letter) โ€” not required if currently enrolled in Wyoming Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF
  • Proof of Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF enrollment if applicable โ€” tribal FDPIR enrollment is also accepted in place of income documentation

Documents can be uploaded digitally through the online portal before your appointment, reducing time spent at the clinic.

Step 3: Attend Your Certification Appointment

Each person applying for WIC must be physically present at the certification appointment (some exceptions are available โ€” ask your clinic). A WIC health professional will verify your eligibility, conduct a brief nutritional assessment including height, weight, and a blood test for iron levels, and provide personalized nutrition counseling. All caregivers are welcome: dads, grandparents, foster parents, guardians, and step-parents can all apply for children in their care.

Step 4: Receive Your eWIC Card

If eligible, you will receive your eWIC card loaded with your first month's food benefits. The card works at authorized WIC stores statewide, including many with self-checkout โ€” simply swipe your card and the system handles WIC benefits automatically. Use the WIC Shopper app to find approved items and check your balance. Ask your clinic about breastfeeding support resources, breast pumps, and seasonal Farmers' Market Nutrition Program benefits.

Tribal WIC and FDPIR

Tribal members on the Wind River Indian Reservation may apply through the Eastern Shoshone Tribe WIC Program (Fort Washakie, 307-332-6733) or Northern Arapaho Tribe WIC (Arapahoe, 307-857-2722) instead of the state program. Participation in the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) may satisfy WIC income requirements through adjunctive eligibility.

Recertification

WIC certification periods follow federal standards. Pregnant women are certified through their pregnancy and then transition to a postpartum certification lasting up to six months. Breastfeeding mothers may receive WIC benefits for up to one year postpartum, with recertification every six months. Infants are first certified at or near birth and recertified at six months of age to continue benefits through their first birthday. Children ages one through four are recertified annually. Wyoming WIC will notify you when your certification is approaching its end โ€” you can also check your status or schedule recertification through the online portal at wic-portal.health.wyo.gov/ParticipantPortal.
